Counter Strike 1.6 Main Menu Problem - Fix

Have you installed the counter strike by downloading the setup from the internet?
Is the main menu was not exactly what you were expecting?
Is every single entry from the main menu missing?

You have come to the right place,
Follow these simple steps to get that sexy old main menu back!

First, go into the game folder, and then
goto: \cstrike\resource\GameMenu.res

Then opent GameMenu.res file with simple notepad or any code editor you like,

delete the text that's in that file, and paste this one below.

"GameMenu"
{
"4"
{
"label" ""
}
"5"
{
"label" "#GameUI_GameMenu_ResumeGame"
"command" "ResumeGame"
"OnlyInGame" "1"
}
"6"
{
"label" "#GameUI_GameMenu_Disconnect"

"command" "Disconnect"
"OnlyInGame" "1"
"notsingle" "1"
}
"7"
{
"label" "#GameUI_GameMenu_PlayerList"
"command" "OpenPlayerListDialog"
"OnlyInGame" "1"
"notsingle" "1"
}
"8"
{
"label" ""
"command" ""
"OnlyInGame" "1"
}
"9"
{
"label" "#GameUI_GameMenu_NewGame"
"command" "OpenCreateMultiplayerGameDialog"
}
"10"
{
"label" "#GameUI_GameMenu_FindServers"
"command" "OpenServerBrowser"
}
"11"
{
"label" "#GameUI_GameMenu_Options"
"command" "OpenOptionsDialog"
}
"12"
{
"label" "#GameUI_GameMenu_Quit"
"command" "Quit"
}
}

Save the file.

Open/Launch the game, and you'll see the menu you expected.

  2. Hello people.I found a different solution that worked for me.I know it is a long text but the solution is actually one line in itself.It is very simple.I wanted to be as precise as I could, hence the long text.Note that my solution doesn't work with game clients/launchers that do not allow you to enter valve commands before actually running the game,so either find someone else's game launcher which allows you to or find a game file
    counter strike.exe that when opened will try to directly run the game without any clients/launchers inbetween.

    So, my problem was exactly that.I couldn't see any letters such as ''new game'' ,''quit''," find servers'' in counter strike 1.6 , but when I moved my mouse without clicking anything, near the estimated location of the disappeared letters ,I could hear the sound that the letters emit when targeted.So, I solved that problem by launching the game in windowed mode and then going to ''options'',then ''video" and changing the colour quality from 16 bit to 32 bit . That can be done by using , -window , command without the comas ( be sure to separate each next code with a space) in the steam launch options of the game. But if for some reason you do not want to visit steam, create a shortcut for the counter strike.exe file [ or the hl.exe file which means half life.exe] , these two share the same change in settings if your download of counter strike 1.6 also contained half life,at least they did share the same changes for me, and then, right-click the shortcut,go to properties, go to shortcut tab and you will see near the top [my computer fonts are greek but i will translate]

    destination: "C:\Games\Counter Strike Clean\Counter-Strike.exe"
    and underneath it there is
    launch from:"C:\Games\Counter Strike Clean"
    So,exact folders and file names may differ from mine but that is not important.Make sure that you are logged in as an admin,if you are not switch to your administrator profile and then, in the destination box,the first one,after the quotes " add exactly one space and write:
    -32bpp -gl -window .It should look like this:

    destination: "C:\Games\Counter Strike Clean\Counter-Strike.exe" -32bpp -gl -window

    .After you click " apply" and "ok" and then retry entering the file,preferably as an admin, but I do not think it matters at all, you will be able to do it.So after you are in, go to "options" , then "video" and uncheck "Run in window" and click "apply".The next time that you close the game and try to restart it ,make sure that you remove the -window command and also the rest of the commands if you want to have any different settings applied all the time.
    The above series of commands forced the game to launch in 32 bit colour quality,in windowed mode and also forced it to use OpenGl as its renderer.Note that if you ever use DED or Software renderer to run the game and at some point it crashes ,when you try to reopen the game you may get some other error or this error ,as i got with d3d :
    Fatal error
    Error 5899: Metadata file missing or damaged [-1]!!!
    If you get this error try the exact same procedure and you have your game working again.
    I think that the OpenGl renderer makes the game always accessible and I do not think it crashes at all.
    Here is a link to a list of valve commands from the steam website in order to overcome various related problems with valve games:
    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1216-JMTZ-0860
    There is a possibility that if you get a black screen after you try opening the game,your game data files are not corrupted and that the problem is a resolution problem.You can also use valve commands to address that issue as well. The -w 640 command for example forces the game to launch in a 640 x 480 resolution.There are more in the link that I mentioned.
